Dinner on the Farm

So after being super busy and having way too much fun 2 weekends ago, I ended up getting really sick and got behind on my blogging (and everything else in my life). So now I am going to catch up, lucky you! ;)

About two weeks ago, my friends Cali and Robert invited me to their beautiful little house out in the country for dinner. As always, Cali's sweet southern hospitality made a random Wednesday night one of those great nights of law school. Between Cali's baked ziti, good red wine, a little jeopardy, Modern Family, and Wii bowling, it was a perfect night for a couple of nerds. Thanks Cali!

Cali and I after our head-to-head bowl off! We each one a game, poor Robert won none.

Look at that athlete!! "The good thing about skorts is that you can still do high kicks in them." - Cali

Robert definitely earned that beer after being SO DOMESTIC and cleaning the whole kitchen!

My V-Day Date

This is my Man in a Bottle Valentine from Cali and Robert (made my day) before I performed the romantic seance that brought him to life. Afterward, he looked a lot more like this:

Don Draper
Let's just say it was pretty romantic.

I am so ready for Mad Men to return. Come on March 25th!

Quotes

“I have a history of making decisions very quickly about men. I have always fallen in love fast and without measuring risks. I have a tendency not only to see the best in everyone, but to assume that everyone is emotionally capable of reaching his highest potential. I have fallen in love more times than I care to count with the highest potential of a man, rather than with the man himself, and I have hung on to the relationship for a long time (sometimes far too long) waiting for the man to ascend to his own greatness. Many times in romance I have been a victim of my own optimism.”
― Elizabeth GilbertEat, Pray, Love

I just love this quote probably because it hits so close to home.

Galentine's Day!!!

I thought this was a fitting and amusing drawing for me this Valentine's Day. Because of this and because "what the hell is happening" isn't really all that fun a place to be, I have decided to treat Valentine's Day as New Years for my love life. Clean Slate! Good Decisions! A Happier and Healthier Year Going Forward!

Luckily for me, I have so many amazing girlfriends in my life that it almost doesn't seem fair, but its the kind of luck I wouldn't trade for the world. I just hope I am and can be as good to them as they have been to me. So Happy Valentine's Day to my wonderful friends! I love you and I don't know where I would be without y'all.

Here is a little treat because every girl deserves to be serenaded by Mumford and Sons from the window of her apartment in Paris (singing starts at about 3:00). ("A Take Away Show")

Blind Pilot @ The Jefferson

So one of my favorite things about the music scene in Charlottesville is that it draws smaller, up-and-coming acts. Some of them I have heard of before and I get excited when their show date is released (like the Delta Spirit show in April). Other times, I end up finding new music just by checking out bands that are coming to town which is what happened in this instance.

Photo from the Jefferson Theater website.

This Friday (February 17), the Portland-based band Blind Pilot is playing at the Jefferson Theater. They are touring after releasing their sophomore album, "We Are The Tide," in September 2011 which was chosen to be part of NPR Music's "First Listen" series. Their debut album, "3 Rounds and a Sound", was included on NPR's "Best of 2008" list. Check out both albums on Spotify and see if you enjoy them.

Also check out their acoustic performance of  "New York" that was filmed in New Orleans over Halloween Weekend 2011 as part of a set for Liveset.com.

Anyone want to check out the concert with me?

Dylan and Cash

I have always found black and white images of Bob Dylan to be evocative and daring. Recently when Dylan has come up in conversations with my friends, I have asked if they seen this photo and the answer is always "No!" I don't know what I love more in this image, the intensity of their engagement with one another or the spectators faces as they dine amongst gods.

If I ever have an abundance of funds, I would invest in this oversize image of Dylan by photographer Jerry Schatzberg who also shot the cover of "Blonde on Blonde."

Following My Bliss

"There is one thing one has to have: either a soul that is cheerful by nature, or a soul made cheerful by work, love, art, and knowledge." Friedrich Nietzsche

OK so this my blog. Wait... I have a blog? That sentence just sounds weird. So while I have no idea what I am doing, I guess I am hoping that this blog will give me a chance to explore and share all the passions in my life that don't get expressed in the wonky world of law school.
